It is not only the person who has the cancer who is affected. Breast cancer sometimes affects family members and carers and they should be encouraged to seek support and guidance.
- Feel free to go along to appointments with the breast care nurse or doctor and ask any questions you may have.
- Encourage your family member to be as independent and active as possible to ensure they maintain their self-confidence.
- Don’t be afraid to ask other family members or close friends for help if you need it, they will appreciate the opportunity to help.
Five things to ask your friend/family member with breast cancer
If you are anxious, do share your concerns with them. Also ask them if they would find it useful if you accompany them at their next clinic appointment?
- Is there anything you would like me to ask your breast cancer specialist on your behalf?
- Are there any chores that I can take care of that would make things easier for you?
- Shall we join an exercise or yoga class together?
- Do you fancy going out for the day or going out for a meal?
